CURAÇAO’S TEEN BEAUTY QUEEN FOR MISS CARAÏBES HIBISCUS

The 18 year-old teen beauty, Ruënna Mercelina will represent the newest country in the world “Curaçao” in the Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus 2011 pageant.
Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus is an annual international beauty contest for all countries of the Caribbean and the Americas. It was founded in 1990 in the French part of Saint Martin.

The 20th edition of the Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus Beauty Pageant will take place from November 22nd to December 6th, 2010 and the final on December 4th 2010 on the island of Saint Martin, at the Convention Center, Sonesta Maho Beach Resort.

More than 20 contestants coming from our entire network comprising of South, Central America and all the Caribbean islands will compete for the title in December 2010, where Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus 2010, Yoly Hawley of St. Martin will crown her successor at the end of the event.
The Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus winner serves as the spokesperson for the Caribbean islands throughout the reigning year, travelling on promotional trips in the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the USA.

In December 2009, Curaçao made history in the Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus pageant when former Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus 2008, Laurien Angelista crowns Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus 2009, Angenie Simon both coming from the island of Curaçao. These girls where the only winners from Curaçao in the pageant history, while in 2007 Clarissa Alberg scored with the First Runner-up title.

Miss Ruënna Mercelina’s selection was done at the executive level of the pageant using the international pageant judging criteria which includes overall appearance, beauty of the face, swimsuit fitness, poise and elegance, personality, local and global awareness and intelligence.
She was born in Willemstad, Curaçao on January 18th, 1992. In her earlier years she attended Johan van Walbeeck Preparatory School and Albert Schweitzer High School, where she first started her artistic career. As a child she was discovered and trained by model agent Mrs. Emilka Eustachia from A2Z Models, later on she went and participated in the Miss Curaçao Teenager pageant and Model Image company of Mr. Aubrey America, for until this date she was the participant in history to achieve more titles as a teenage girl, and has accumulated several distinctions (Miss Kitatin, Miss Caribbean Talented Teen, Miss Ecstasy International, Miss College of the Dutch Caribbean and WE LEAD Youth Ambassador) and has starred in many shows and local promotions. In addition, she did athletics, acting and was also modeling instructor for children and pre-teens.

Ruënna also known as “Sugar” was raised in a Roman-Catholic home with both parents and an older brother, which is also the Youth Parliament President of Curaçao.
Currently, she is a student at the College of the Dutch Caribbean pursuing her studies in Marketing & Public Relations.

Her break-through as actress was in a political satire as main-actress with the aspects of the revolution of the 30th of May 1969 in Curaçao, written, directed and acted by the legendary comedian Eligio Melfor. She’s now starring as one of the main roles for Endemol’s new soap-series for Curaçao.

As a teen beauty ambassador she wants to serve as a role model to inspire other youngsters around the globe. She wants to work on the mission to develop the role of youth as new leaders and nation builders through participation in their community through projects as an ambassador of the WE LEAD Foundation in Curaçao.
She credits her mother for all her talent, love and confidence.
Her role models are Tyra Banks, and Annemarie Braafheid (the former Miss Curaçao 1968 and the first black woman to attain the position of first runner up in the Miss Universe contest).

Her main goal is to win the Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus so she could keep on building on her international career, and afterwards she would like to pursue the grand slam pageant crowns.

GWENDELL “WEN” MERCELINA, JR.

Since birth a very active boy, did everything he could full of energy and always prepared.
He’s characterized as a very ambitious, professional and charismatic young man.
Studied at the Johan van Walbeeck kleuter en basisschool (primary and elementary school), then went to Radulphus College (highschool) did his HAVO (Hoger Algemeen Voortgezet Onderwijs).
In 2007 he finished the highest high school education in Curaçao, Dutch Caribbean (VWO – Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs) as the best graduate at a private school. Afterwards he studied Antillean Law at the University of the Netherlands Antilles; until he finished his propodeuticals he went to the private University of the Dutch Caribbean to study Marketing & International Management until now.
Gwendell has always been pretty well-known in his community as an actor, writer, model, tv-host, master of ceremonies, trainer, athlete and also in several organizations as “Djadumingu Mainta”, “Pastoral Hubenil”, Curaçao Beauty Organization, “Endemol” (Netherlands), Rainbow Push Coalition (Chicago), “Eenheid is Kracht” Foundation (Netherlands), Youth Outreach (Bonaire), Nationale Jeugd Instituut (Suriname), Junior Chamber International, Toastmasters International, President of  HEFKE (Hoben Empresario Formando Kreando i Edukando/Young Entrepreneurs Forming, Creating and Educating), Youth Vision 5000 as secretary, and President of the Youth Parliament of Curaçao “Hoben Goberna” since 2005.
Next to all his activities, he got chosen as Youngster of the Year 2009Top 5 Most Outstanding Men of Curaçao and got a Wheel of Perseverance Award from his neighborhood-platform.
Through all his years as President of the Youth Parliament and working on his international career he’s been promoting and working on projects of nation building through the youth.
Which brought him to a new concept of leadership and nation building; this made him launch on the International Youth Day 2010 his new foundation WE LEAD, that will work towards the celebration of the International Youth Year 2010-2011.
Furthermore Gwendell works towards his own entertainment company named WENSHOW”.
He hopes with his work to bring a positive effect in the development of his nation but also into every community of the world.
